Nakuru Residential Estate — 15kWp Hybrid Microgrid

The Challenge

A gated residential estate of 28 units in Nakuru was experiencing up to 8 hours of load-shedding daily, affecting home offices, refrigeration, security systems and water booster pumps. Residents were spending an average of KES 18,000 per household per month on KPLC combined with generator fuel.

The Solution

Pergamon Energy designed and installed a 15kWp shared hybrid solar microgrid for the estate:

• 60 × 250W high-efficiency monocrystalline panels on carport and rooftop structures
• 20kW hybrid inverter with automatic grid-switching (≤20ms transfer time)
• 48V, 500Ah LiFePO₄ battery bank (24kWh usable) for overnight and outage coverage
• Smart load management system prioritising critical shared loads (borehole, security, lighting)
• Individual unit sub-metering with a prepaid app interface
